Virtualization

Virtualization is used when hardware resources are not utilized by an application or applications or services are to run logically separated from each other on the same machine. Finally, applications can be delivered as virtual machines if desired. The customer thus has a very fast installation ready for operation. Used correctly, virtualization helps to better utilize machines and allows quick setup and transfer of installations.
ENDA has been using virtualization since its inception. We have experience with several virtualization technologies and have used each of them at least temporarily in projects:

  • Proxmox VE
  • Podman
  • Docker
  • LXC
  • Linux KVM
  • VirtualBox

The Podman and Docker technologies are particularly lightweight and we prefer to use them for systems with lower protection requirements. Docker in particular allows systems to be assembled very quickly and easily. Migration to other machines is also easily possible.
For applications with higher protection requirements - see also BSI-compliant hosting or ENDA Secure Cloud - we use better insulating solutions such as KVM; virtualization is not used for particularly high protection requirements.
